Christine

Before & After:

Name: Christine
Age: 49
Date of Diagnosis: May, 2005
Date of Treatment: December 20, 2006 - January 14, 2007
Place of Treatment: Nanshan People's Hospital, Shenzhen, China

Symptoms Before Treatment:
- staggering gait
- poor balance standing still or during any activity
- slurring speech and some difficulty swallowing
- low energy
- bladder problem
- deteriorating fine motor skills
- difficulty using stairs, even with a railing
- using transit or even trying to walk anywhere was becoming unsafe

Results From treatment:
- improved gait, straight and "normal, typical" a lot of the time
- better/good balance -able to stand on one leg over 2 minutes. Can shift my weight successfully, if needed, without falling over Able to retain balance in a squatting position...
- speech is fine, most of the time, I only slur & stumble over my words when I get tired (seldom). Good energy...
- no bladder problems, fine motor skills are o.k. but still not great, I have difficulty printing, but can do it slowly
-I can use the stairs without a railing if I go slowly and carefully but usually touch a railing lightly , for stability, especially when I'm out doing things. No problems tackling most stairs or steep sidewalks. Curbs are usually fine.
- I walk most days, shop, go to movies, etc...using local transit. No problems, I can maneuver safely now .

Additional Details:
Very good and comprehensive details about my stem cell treatment in China,
both before and after can be viewed at http://www.stemcellschina.com/content/view/521/280/lang,en/

As well, I regularly update "Christine's Ataxia Blog" on that site AND I have a "stem cell recipients" group on Facebook if anyone has a profile there and is interested in joining.  This treatment changed my life...it gave it back to me because I was slowly starting to "disappear". I'm a single mom with a teenage son, close family and friends that I'm able to fully share life with now.
