nemaline rods

My granddaughter was born with a muscle disease called nemaline rods.  This disease is very debilitating.
She is 11 years old, has osteoporosis, can't run, has difficulty walking and doing most things that require muscle functions.
She still receives much of her nourishment from a feeding tube.
I was wondering if there was any research being done with stem cells regarding this disease.
That is the only hope she has of leading a normal life.
